Ms. Bindhu Pamarthi was crowned Miss District of Columbia. After a nearly 3 1/2 hour contest between 19 contestants, a panel of six judges determined Ms. Pamarthi was the best suited to represent the District of Columbia in the Miss America Pageant scheduled to be held later this year. Contestants were judged on a personal interview between the judges and each contestant (off-stage), an on-stage series of questions, performance of a talent, portrayal of evening wear and finally, portrayal of swimsuit wear. Contestants are expected to display a sense of confidence and presence on stage in order to get top marks from the judges, who this year included several well known figures such as Michael Steele, former Republic National Committee (RNC) Chairman and Lieutenant Governor of Maryland. In addition to the crowning of Miss DC, Ms. Logan White was crowned Miss District of Columbia’s Outstanding Teen for 2013.
